Our Family’s Journey Begins
Hi, I’m Vivia, and this is the story of Tru Jamaica — a family dream come to life at 937 Taylor Street in Waco, Texas. We serve authentic Jamaican food, made with heart and heritage. It all started in December 2019, just before the world shut down due to COVID-19.
Inspired by Faith and Family
We opened Tru Jamaica as a family — me, my daughter Mercedes, and my sons Aniceto Sr. and Jr. Our dream was built on faith, food, and the belief that good meals bring people together. We stayed strong through hard times and are still here, sharing the taste of Jamaica with our Waco neighbors.
A Legacy That Started Long Ago
After seven successful years, they ventured into the restaurant world by opening Northern Virginia’s first Jamaican restaurant, in Woodbridge. This venture laid the foundation for Tru Jamaica in Waco, Texas. Guided by God’s direction—and a spark of “Fixer Upper” inspiration—we explored East Waco, purchased a building, renovated it, and spread the word that authentic Jamaican cuisine was coming soon! Their unwavering passion transformed this venture into a beacon of cultural fusion.

After almost a year of preparation, they opened the doors and jumped in with both feet, committed to working hard and smart. From sourcing unique meats and ingredients, to hiring the right team, to surviving the challenges of COVID-19 lockdowns, they stayed diligent in food processes, quality control, and supporting their employees. Tru Jamaica celebrates the rich traditions, resilience, and diversity that have shaped our journey.
Rising From the Fire
In December 2022, a fire damaged the restaurant. It was a tough time, but thanks to God and the love of our community, we found strength. We’re rebuilding, stronger than ever, and we plan to reopen in June. We can’t wait to welcome you back.
Looking Ahead With Hope
Big things are coming. We’re expanding our catering services, working on getting a liquor license, and upgrading our kitchen. Tru Jamaica is growing, but our mission stays the same — to bring people together through food and faith.
Keeping God first, family close, and working smart has always been our foundation. Tru Jamaica is more than just a restaurant — it’s a family, a dream, and a true taste of Jamaica. Ya Mon!
